Province Extends Virtual Meeting Deadline For Condos!

The Government of Ontario has announced changes that will extend the effective period of temporary legislative provisions that allow condominium corporations (among others) to call and hold virtual meetings.

These new changes mean that condominiums in Ontario will now be able to call and host their meetings virtually and permit electronic voting (without the need to approve a by-law to that effect) until December 31, 2021 (the previous deadline was May 31, 2021). The extension applies to owners’ meetings, directors’ meetings and Annual General Meetings (AGMs).

Moreover, condos will be able to provide Notice of Meeting packages (and associated documents) to their owners electronically.

The Province’s decision to extend the date for calling and hosting meetings virtually should be welcome news for members of Ontario’s condominium community, as we collectively try to navigate the “third wave” of the COVID-19 pandemic.
