Province Seeking Feedback on Condominium Insurance
The Ministry of Government and Consumer Services has issued the following public notice:
This email is to inform you that the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services, with support from the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, is conducting consultations to solicit written comments on condominium insurance issues.
The purpose of this consultation is to develop a better understanding of the issues that the condominium community is facing in Ontario’s insurance market, including insurance affordability and availability for condominium corporations, and the definition of ‘standard unit’ under the Condominium Act, 1998.
We welcome any input on a Feedback Form that consists of targeted questions related to (1) condominium insurance market issues, (2) condominium corporation governance, and (3) quality of condominium property construction.
This Feedback Form is now posted on Ontario’s Regulatory Registry for public comments. If you wish to participate, we encourage you to provide feedback on these topics at the following link by 5:00pm on January 7, 2022.
At DHA, we will be offering feedback, and we will be keeping our readers posted!
We also urge all of our readers to offer feedback to the province on these important issues.
This is an exciting opportunity. This may actually lead to some insurance solutions for condominiums in Ontario!
Stay tuned to Condo Law News to keep up to date on the latest developments on condominium insurance issues!
